To satisfy our requirements
for dipole subwoofers, and exemplary bass
where dipole subwoofers are not practical,
we have had to source some exceptional drivers.
One manufacturer is ACOUSTIC
ELEGANCE (previously Stryke) produce superlative
subwoofer drivers. They redefine the oft abused
term 'long throw' which other brands claim
for their products.
This parameter, Xmax,
when examined, is a massive 23mm for the AV
series.
Here are some simple
facts:
A typical 300mm bass
driver might manage 6.5mm Xmax.
Don't be fooled by "Pro" labels.
A subwoofer with a 200mm
driver hardly qualifies for the label.
The170mm 'bass' drivers
of much hifi product today rarely exceed 4mm.
